Margaret Ann Albert

Margaret Ann Albert (née Starr), 79, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 10, 2025.

Born and raised in Wooster, Ohio, Margaret grew up on her family’s farm, where she loved the thrill of riding her dirt bike and her pony, Lightning. Her curiosity and love of learning led her to Kent State University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Biology and a master’s degree in Library Science.

Margaret began her career as a teacher and librarian with the Akron Public Library system, nurturing a lifelong love of books and knowledge. It was during this time that she met her husband, Louis Albert, while living near the University of Akron. They married on Friday, December 13, 1968, and built a joyful life together filled with adventure, laughter, and deep love. Margaret also earned her pilot’s license — with instrument and twin-engine ratings — a testament to her courage and determination.

In the early 1970s, Margaret and Louis began a new chapter together, managing F/Stop Camera, a beloved local camera and film processing shop in West Akron. Margaret led the business with care and creativity until its closing in 2005, earning the admiration of customers and friends alike. While running F/Stop, she was also a long-time member of the Akron Executive Association, building lasting friendships within the local business community.

In the 1980s, Margaret dedicated her time and compassion to Women’s American ORT, helping resettle Soviet Jewish families and supporting their new beginnings in the United States — work that reflected her generous spirit and commitment to others.

After Louis’s passing in 2006, Margaret continued to live a full and rich life. She moved to Carlsbad, California, to help raise her grandsons Liam, Zeke, and Aidan, creating wonderful memories filled with love, laughter, and beach adventures. In 2015, she fulfilled a longtime dream by moving to New England, where she could enjoy the beautiful seasons she had always cherished — the colorful autumns, snowy winters, and blooming springs.

In her final years, Margaret lived in Nashville near her son Byron, surrounded by family and the affection of her devoted orange cat, Sunshine.

Margaret will be remembered for her sharp wit, gentle kindness, and boundless curiosity. She was an avid reader of science fiction, always drawn to stories that sparked her imagination. She also loved to travel, exploring faraway places including Machu Picchu, Japan, and Morocco.

Margaret was the beloved wife of the late Louis for 38 years, and the devoted mother of Morton (Jeanine) of Carlsbad, CA, and Byron (Kim) of Nashville, TN. She was the proud grandmother of Liam (Natasha), Ezekiel, and Aidan. She is also survived by her sisters Sharon Meyers (Chuck) and Rosemary Roof, brother David Starr (Ilene), and sisters-in-law Saragene Davis, Betsy Cooper, Amy Frumkin (Rick), and Judy Albert. She was preceded in death by her parents Jack and Dorothy Starr, her husband Louis, and brother John Starr.

Margaret’s warmth, humor, and adventurous spirit touched everyone who knew her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

There will be no formal services immediately following. A celebration of life will be held at a future date in the greater Akron area. To be notified of this event, please reach out to Morton.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Margaret’s name to the Audubon Society or Boys Town, two organizations that reflect her lifelong love of nature and her caring heart for others.
