Lillian Irene Taylor Robinson

Feb 13, 1926 — Jul 11, 2026

Lillian Irene Taylor Robinson passed away peacefully on July 11, 2026, at The Goldton at Spring Hill in Spring Hill, Tennessee. She was born in Washington, D.C., on February 13, 1926, and celebrated her 100th birthday earlier this year.

Irene was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 45 years, Robert Strother Robinson; her parents, William and Lillian Taylor; and her sisters, Gladys Coffee, Edna Fuerst, and Anna Kerns.

She is lovingly remembered by her son, Ross Robinson (Ellen Robinson); her daughter, Robyn Cunningham (Michael Cunningham); her four grandchildren, Shannon Robinson Kelley (Dave Kelley), Kristie Robinson Kumor, Patricia Randal McMurtry, and Robert James Cunningham; and her four great-grandchildren, Hunter Hattersley, Charlotte Kelley, Dallas Kumor, and Piper Irene Kumor. She also leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends whose lives were touched by her kindness, generosity, and unwavering friendship.

A graduate of Mary Washington University, Irene devoted her career to educating generations of students as a music teacher in Fairfax County and Arlington County, Virginia, public school systems. She inspired a lifelong appreciation of music in countless children before retiring after 40 years of dedicated service.

Music remained at the heart of Irene’s life long after retirement. After she and Robbie settled at Lake of the Woods in Locust Grove, Virginia, she became an active member of the LOW Lakers and LOW Lakettes, serving as pianist for both groups. She also faithfully shared her musical talents by playing piano for Wednesday evening services at the Lake of the Woods Church, bringing joy, comfort, and inspiration to her community through every note.

To know Irene (lovingly called Mimi in her later years) was to experience genuine kindness. She had an extraordinary gift for making everyone feel welcomed, valued, and at home. Whether opening her door to family and friends, lending a helping hand to a neighbor, or quietly offering encouragement when it was needed most, she gave of herself generously and without expectation. Her compassion, humility, and servant’s heart left a lasting impression on everyone who was fortunate enough to know her.

More than any accomplishment, Irene will be remembered for the love she had for her family. She treasured time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, whether gathered around the piano, enjoying the beach, playing golf, driving her Cadillac, or celebrating her favorite tradition—hosting the annual Robinson Christmas Sing-Along in her home at Lake of the Woods. Her home was a place of laughter, music, and unconditional love, where everyone was welcomed with open arms. Her joyful spirit, gentle wisdom, and enduring faith created memories that her family and friends will cherish for generations.

A Celebration of Irene’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Lake of the Woods Players (www.lowplayers.org).
