Clyde Hartman, 95, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed peacefully on September 1, 2025. He was a faithful Christian who loved God, his family, and his community. Joyfully he applied his talents to serve his family and others he met on life’s journey.
Born in Tyler County near New Martinsville, West Virginia he learned carpentry skills from his father and how to work hard on the farm. As a young man, Clyde served in the Naval Reserve, and he tried out for the New York Giants as a left-handed pitcher.
He enjoyed serving his church family as a Bible teacher and elder. He spent his career in Education as teacher, principal, and superintendent for Trotwood Madison in Dayton, Ohio. Clyde enjoyed meeting friends weekly to play golf in Ohio and when he retired in Tennessee. He could also be found outside gardening, grilling or playing a round of Euchre.
Preceded in death by his father William D. Hartmann, his mother Chloe H. Watkins, and also his 11 brothers and sisters. Clyde was preceded in death by his first wife, Joanne Mae Claunch, with whom he had three children.
Survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Ruth Ann Hartman, children: David (Phyllis Mire) Hartman, Kenneth Hartman, James Hartman, Kristi (David Wagner) Hartman, grandchildren: Danny (Jenna Underhill) Hartman, Robert (Jennifer Oberst) Hartman, Randy (Lynsi Tucker) Hartman, Isaiah Wagner, Aleah Wagner, and great-grandchildren: Grayden, Luke, Jacob, Reed, Samuel, Ellisyn, Nathan and Caleb Hartman.
A celebration of life will be held at the Woodson Chapel Church of Christ fellowship hall on September 6, 2025 with food and fellowship at 3:00 pm and service at 4:00 pm. Interment planned for Northview Cemetery in New Martinsville, West Virginia at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to the church or Midwestern Children's Home (Pleasant Plain, Ohio) in memory of Clyde.
