Brett Michael McGuire

Brett Michael McGuire, age 64 of Nashville, TN, passed away on September 2nd, 2026 surrounded by family and loved ones after a long battle with bladder cancer.

Born on July 29th, 1962 in Pheonix, AZ. He grew up in Hawaii, Rome, Italy and Louisiana. Brett was the son of Danny and Dorothy McGuire. He was known for his kindness, humor, generosity, and caring for others.

Brett loved to travel, perform, and teach. He spent his earlier years traveling with Up With People as a singer/songwriter/stagehand, performed in Nashville at The Bluebird/Gibson along with countless other venues. He was a teacher at MNPS in Nashville, TN where he spent most of his career teaching at JT Moore Middle School until his retirement. He touched many lives in his lifetime and continued caring for others throughout his illness.

He is survived by his beloved family, including “the Boyz,” as he affectionately called them: Chris (Lori) King, Shaun Fortner, and Alex Gutierrez; his NY family; his grandchildren, Ally and Aubrie King, Jasmine Fortner, and Camilla Gutierrez; his mother, Dorothy McGuire; his siblings, Dana (Jeff) Bergman; Scott (Sharon) McGuire; and his nephews, Kyle Bergman, Cody Bergman, Connor Bergman, and Chris McGuire. He also leaves behind countless friends, former students, colleagues, and loved ones whom he considered family—far too many to name, but each an important part of his life.

He was preceded in death by his father, Danny McGuire.

A celebration of Brett’s life will be held on October 3rd, 2026 (time and location TBD). Family and friends are invited to share memories and honor his life.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Moore Theatrics or perform an act of kindness in his memory.

Brett will be remembered for the laughter, music, and memories he shared with so many.
